San Jose State Spartans To Play Eastern Michigan Eagles in Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

The San Jose State Spartans (7-4) are making their second bowl game in the past three seasons, where they’ll take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl game in Boise, Idaho. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. (Central Time) on December 20th. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

San Jose State is 7-4 all-time in bowl games and making their first ever appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

SJSU is 0-1 all-time against Eastern Michigan, with the lone meeting coming in the 1987 California Bowl in Fresno, California where the Eagles beat the Spartans 30-27.

“We are very excited about accepting an invitation to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, and it being one of the more iconic bowl games,” SJSU athletic director Jeff Konya said. “This is the second bowl game for our program over the last three years, which has only happened one other time in the history of our program.”

“Boise is a great town and we’re excited to take our team there. We’re playing an incredible opponent and I think it’s going to be a great show for everyone to watch,” SJSU head coach Brent Brennan said. “We’re also taking another step as a program and playing in big time bowl games in December is what it’s all about.”

This is a big deal that SJSU has made it to a bowl game this year. The extra practices and game experience is crucial for programs like SJSU and it also helps with recruiting.

The Spartans are also scheduled to play Eastern Michigan on the road on September 5th, 2026 and at CEFCU Stadium on September 1st, 2029. So this is a little preview for the future schedule.
