Wisconsin Badgers Fall in College Park to Terrapins

The Wisconsin Badgers (12-7, 4-5 B1G) suffered their second-straight loss, this time with an embarrassing defensive effort during a 73-55 defeat against the Maryland Terrapins (13-7, 4-5 B1G) in what feels like the lowest point of the season to date. UW is 1-5 in their last six games.

Maryland took 50 shots in the game, 21 were dunks or layups.

Wisconsin looked deflated and defeated in the second half, which is a rare sighting for the UW program. UW gave Maryland very little, if any, resistance on drives to the paint. Tons of missed assignments. UGLY!

Brutal defense, brutal loss.

I may be in the minority, but Greg Gard hasn’t been the problem for Wisconsin.

Players are moving off-ball and the opportunities have been there, but the lack of execution has been significant. During this skid, the defense has lacked energy, especially on the glass.

You can certainly blame health being an issue with Tyler Wahl and now Max Klesmit missing multiple games, but the players available can still control effort and execution.

The Northwestern postponement did UW no favors and they could have used the extra two days between the Northwestern game and tonight’s game against Maryland.

I hope UW puts a football helmet on Klesmit to protect his jaw and let him play. The Badgers need him back because it’s gut-check time for UW.

Up Next:

Wisconsin will host the Illinois Fighting Illini (14-6, 5-4 B1G) at the Kohl Center on Saturday, January 28th. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (Central Time) and will be nationally televised on FOX.
