The Wisconsin Badgers (7-6) escape the desert with a 24-17 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys (7-6) to win the Guaranteed Rate Bowl from Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

One era ends. Another begins. With a win. No better common denominator. No better tribute to Jim Leonhard and Luke Fickell who handled a difficult situation with class and professionalism. Both made it about these players and this team put an exclamation mark on this season.
I send my best wishes to Jim Leonhard, the best defensive coordinator I’ve seen at UW, but more importantly, a loyal soldier who always carried himself with dignity and class.
I’m glad Jimmy is the one who got the Gatorade bath after the game.

Senior Chase Wolf got the start for UW at quarterback and completed 16-of-26 passes for 116 yards with one touchdown and one interception. His interception was a poor read on his part, but to his credit, he made some important throws.
The Badgers ran for 258 yards, led by Braelon Allen’s 116 rushing yards (with a TD) and Chez Mellusi’s 77 rushing yards (and a TD).
The UW defense absolutely dominated the first half, and they made one last stand to help secure the victory.
The bowl win marks eight wins in the last nine bowl games for UW. I’m glad the team is sending out this coaching staff, including Jim Leonhard, on a high note. Luke Fickell heads into the offseason with something positive to build on for the future.

I can’t say enough about the players who have answered to three different head coaches in 2022.
I’m happy UW finished the season the right way after the tumultuous season.
Up Next:
It’s going to be an important offseason for Luke Fickell and staff. The season opener is on September 2nd when Wisconsin hosts the Buffalo Bulls at Camp Randall Stadium.
