Wisconsin Badgers Volleyball Advances To Elite 8 (Again!)

The No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers (28-3) volleyball team is dancing their way to the Elite 8 again after a five-set thriller! In a highly anticipated and wildly entertaining Sweet 16 showdown with Big Ten foe No. 11 Penn State Nittany Lions (26-8), the Badgers prevailed in five sets from inside the UW Field House.

Wisconsin had a great start to the match in the first two sets and jumped out to a 2-0 lead entering intermission, but on a day that the Badgers struggled with Penn State’s serving, the Nittany Lions tied the match at 2-2.

The Badgers responded to the adversity with a magnificent fifth set, taking a commanding 6-1 lead before ultimately winning 15-8 in the final set.

The crowd at the UW Field House was absolutely incredible. For those that say volleyball isn’t a big deal, just take a look at the crowd and atmosphere at the game tonight, it was absolutely electric.

Anna Smrek and Sarah Franklin each finished with 13 kills respectively, while Devyn Robinson finished with 11 kills.

Gulce Guctekin finished with 18 digs and Julia Orzol finished with 16.

Izzy Ashburn and MJ Hammil finished with a combined 42 (!) assists.

Caroline Crawford finished with a team-high 12 blocks, with some huge ones in the fifth set. Smrek and Danielle Hart each finished with eight blocks respectively.
