Wisconsin Badgers Escape With Win Over UW-Green Bay Phoenix

There’s no such thing as an ugly loss or beautiful loss, but this game tried, as the Wisconsin Badgers (3-0) survive a gritty effort from the UW-Green Bay Phoenix (0-3), 56-45, Tuesday night at the Kohl Center.

I’ve seen enough of these types of games in my life from the Badgers to not overreact to one. Greg Gard has had one team in his eight-year tenure that didn’t get better by the time March rolled around and that team was still a 5-seed. Having said that, Wednesday’s practice probably won’t be fun for the Badgers.

Have to give Green Bay credit, they played well and made things very tough on the Badgers offense.

Jordan Davis finished with 11 points and three rebounds.

Max Klesmit with nine points and five rebounds.

Steven Crowl with nine points and nine rebounds. Crowl does need to play tougher defensively, more like a shot blocker and rim protector. It shouldn’t have been that easy for Green Bay to score that easily around the hoop on him.

Chucky Hepburn finished with eight points, seven rebounds and three assists.

It was a tough day offensively for Tyler Wahl and Chucky Hepburn, as they were a combined 4-for-25 from the field (each made two field goals).

The Badgers defense played really well. The 3-point defense in particular has been incredible to start the season. South Dakota made just 2-of-15, Stanford was 1-of-16 and tonight Green Bay was 1-of-13. That’s a combined 4-of-44 (9.1%) from 3-point range that UW is holding opponents to.

Up Next:

The Badgers will be off until next Wednesday, November 23rd when they take on the No. 21 Dayton Flyers (2-0) in the Bahamas in the 2022 Battle 4 Atlantis. Tipoff time is set for 1:30 p.m. (Central Time) and will be nationally televised on either ESPN or ESPN2.

The opponent for Thursday the 24th will either be Kansas or NC State depending on how the two games go.
