The San José State Spartans (6-2, 4-1 MWC) took down a gritty Colorado State Rams (2-7, 2-3 MWC) team, 28-16, inside CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, California on Saturday night. The Spartans are Bowl eligible for the first time since 2020!

I’ll say this: The Spartans make me nervous when they play bad teams/teams they’re supposed to beat because they usually let the team hang around, and that was the case tonight as well as last week.
The defense is the strong suit for SJSU, but the unit allowed 468 yards of total offense, including 333 yards through the air. They came up with a couple of big plays, but allowed Colorado State to convert on too many third-and-longs and one fourth-and-longs and gave up too many chunk plays.
The defense needs to start playing consistent football in order for the Spartans to go where they want to go.
Kairee Robinson had a decent day running the ball, rushing for two touchdowns and 64 yards on 12 carries.
Chevan Cordeiro completed 27-of-42 passes for 274 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Cordeiro and Elijah Cooks have a solid connection, as Cooks had six receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown.
The SJSU offense needs to start play consistently as well and start executing better, because that unit looks real ugly at times. There was also some undisciplined play, as the Spartans had eight penalties for 75 yards.
Up Next:
The Spartans will travel to San Diego, California to play the San Diego State Aztecs (5-4, 3-2 MWC) at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday, November 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. (Central Time) / 7:30 p.m. (Pacific Time) and will be nationally televised on FS1.
This is the biggest game of the season to this point if the Spartans want to keep their hopes of representing the West Division in the Mountain West Championship game. SJSU and Fresno State are tied for first in the West with a 4-1 conference record, but Fresno State holds the tiebreaker due to the head-to-head victory over the Spartans on October 15th.
