Jack Janicki from White Bear Lake, Minnesota has turned down several scholarship offers and committed to the Wisconsin Badgers as a preferred walk-on.
Following his unofficial visit on Monday, Janicki gave his verbal commitment to the Badgers, turning down scholarship offers from Santa Clara, Wake Forest, Colorado State and St. Thomas, among others.
Even though he may be a preferred walk-on right now, head coach Greg Gard expects him to contribute down the road.
Janicki, who’s sister attends UW, joins Gus Yalden and John Blackwell in Wisconsin’s 2023 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-5 combo guard was primarily recruited by assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft. As of now, the Badgers only plan to sign one more scholarship player in the 2023 recruiting class.
“They’re in a tricky situation with scholarships,” Janicki said. “They have one left and they need a big, that’s what they told me. I get that. I don’t think it changes how bad they want me. It just changes the timing of when a scholarship might be available.”
After watching some film on him today, I think Wisconsin fans will like his game and mindset.
