San José State Spartans Football Will Play A Home-And-Home Series Against Washington State Cougars

The San José State Spartans football team announced today that they will play a home-and-home series with the Washington State Cougars.

The first of the two games will be played in Pullman, Washington on September 21st, 2024. However, SJSU will have a lengthy wait for the Cougars to return the home game at CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, California as that game is scheduled for September 6th, 2031.

SJSU and Washington State last met in 2018 and have only played twice in the last 34 years. The Cougars have not played in San Jose since 1968.

SJSU athletic director Jeff Konya said, “We are excited about this home-and-home series against Washington State. One Spartan Nation should be excited for seeing the Cougars visit San Jose for the first time since 1968.”

San Jose State’s updated 2024 non-conference schedule now looks like this: Week 1 vs Sacramento State, Week 2 at USC, Week 3 vs UL-Monroe, Week 4 at Washington State.

In addition to the Washington State announcement, San José State also revealed a change and an addition to the future schedule lineup. SJSU moved its home date versus Idaho up to a Week 0 kickoff in 2025 on August 23rd. The Spartans also announced that the Cal Poly Mustangs, a FCS opponent, will be coming to CEFCU Stadium on September 21, 2030.

The Spartans have also renewed their rivalry with the Stanford Cardinal in the Bill Walsh Legacy Game. The two programs will meet four times from 2025 to 2035, with each team having two home games during that span.

The Spartans will also play another PAC-12 opponent when they host Oregon State in the 2023 home opener, which is also going to be the unveiling of the new Spartan Athletics Complex. The Oregon State Beavers are also scheduled to play at San José State in 2030.
