Preview: Green Bay Blizzard at Frisco Fighters

The Green Bay Blizzard (6-8) travel to Frisco, Texas to take on the Frisco Fighters (11-2), who have the best record in the IFL, on Saturday, June 25th at 7:05 p.m. (Central Time). The game will be televised on the IFL’s YouTube channel.

Green Bay is coming off a historic last second win in Week 15 inside the Resch Center against the Sioux Falls Storm. It was Green Bay’s first win over Sioux Falls in franchise history.

Frisco is coming off a 62-42 Week 15 win over the Iowa Barnstormers which clinched a playoff spot for the Fighters. Frisco is the only team to clinch a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference as I write this.

The Blizzard and Fighters met at the Resch Center in Week 5 and Frisco’s kicker Bryce Crawford hit an 18-yard field goal as time expired to give the Fighters the 38-36 victory.

Green Bay quarterback Jack Sheehan had a good game against Frisco in the first meeting. Sheehan threw for 192 yards and five touchdowns, while also getting 55 rushing yards. Keshaun Taylor caught three touchdowns in that game.

The Blizzard defense is facing a tough task in trying to contain Frisco’s high flying offense. Frisco is averaging 47.8 points per game this season and the Fighters lead the IFL in total yards gained per game, and running back Justin Rankin leads the league in rushing yards per game.

This is basically a must win game for the Blizzard to keep their playoff hopes alive. The top four teams in each conference make the postseason and Green Bay is in sixth place with a 6-8 record, sitting 1 1/2 games behind the Quad City Steamwheelers and Sioux Falls Storm who are tied for third place and both have a 7-6 record. The Blizzard have two games remaining in the regular season.
