The UW-Milwaukee Panthers (11-10) baseball team sweeps the Valparaiso Beacons (11-13) in today’s doubleheader at Franklin Park. The Panthers took Game 1 by a final of 3-2 and then completed the doubleheader sweep with an 8-3 victory in Game 2.
Mitchell Buban played for the first time since March 20th and contributed right away in the first inning in game one today with a double that drove in two runs.
Logan Schulfer (2-0) put together a strong start again and got the win in game one today.
Riley Frey picked up his first career save in the opener.
Andrew Neu (1-0) picked up the win in game two.
Luke Seidel finished the day with four hits and was a home run short of the cycle in game two. Mitchell Buban and Aaron Chapman each had three hits respectively on the day and combined for six RBI.
“It was great overall. The wins are great, but also being able to get some guys involved was important,” UWM head coach Scott Doffek said. “We did walk too many guys but we handled opportunities and got outs when we needed. Offensively, we did a great job of creating pressure on the bases. Great team at bats at the right time and I think that was the difference in both games.”
The Milwaukee Panthers (11-10, 2-2 Horizon) will return to Horizon League action when they host the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons (4-22, 2-7 Horizon) this weekend for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 8th at Franklin Field with first pitch being scheduled for 3:00 PM (Central Time).
