The University of San Diego has parted ways with head men’s basketball coach Sam Scholl.

Scholl took over for Lamont Smith, who was fired, right before the 2018 WCC Tournament and led USD to a 2-2 record, including going 2-1 in the CIT Tournament that season.
In Scholl’s first full season in 2018-19, he led the Toreros to a 21-15 record and an appearance in the NIT, which they ultimately lost to Memphis in the first round.
The Toreros weren’t able to build off that NIT season in 2019, although it appeared they were heading back in the right direction this season when they finished 15-16.
Scholl departs San Diego after 4+ seasons as head coach with a 50-67 (.427) record.
