The San José State Spartans (7-5) played their first game in nearly a month and dominated the Bethesda University Lion Angels (3-10), 118-43, inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center in San Jose, California.
San José State shot 44-of-77 (57.1%) from the field, hit 20-of-41 (48.8%) from 3-point range and 10-of-14 (71.4%) from the free throw line. SJSU had 33 assists, which is an amazing number and had 12 turnovers, which needs to be at 10-or-less.
The 20 three-pointers are a program record!
MJ Amey scored a career-high 32 points on 13-of-21 from the field and had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Tibet Görener scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Trey Smith scored 15 points and Shon Robinson added 12 points to round out the double-figure scorers for SJSU.
This was a game that the Spartans should have dominated and it was a big game to get back into the groove of things after not playing since December 21st.
SJSU will travel to Fresno to play arch-rival the Fresno State Bulldogs (10-4, 0-1 MWC) on Tuesday, January 11th inside the Save Mart Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM (Pacific Time) and will be televised online on the Mountain West Network.
