The Wisconsin Badgers (6-12-1) men’s hockey team gets a much needed win over the Yale Bulldogs (3-8) in overtime, 3-2, in the first ever Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off inside the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Badgers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Mathieu De St. Phalle and Zach Urdahl, but the Bulldogs scored two goals from Teddy Wooding and Henry Wagner in a span of four minutes and 36 seconds to tie the game with 6:59 remaining in the third period.
Then 2:02 into the sudden death overtime period, Brock Caufield sniping in a wrister to get the Badgers a much needed victory tonight.
Caden Brown, Josh Ess, Tarek Baker, Jesper Peltonen, Jack Gorniak, and Corson Ceulemans each recorded one assist respectively tonight for the Badgers.
Both the Wisconsin Badgers and Yale Bulldogs struggle to score, so in a way it was surprising to see five combined goals in the game.
Goalie Jared Moe had 19 saves on 21 shots (90.5%).
The Badgers will play the No. 16 Providence Friars (15-7) tomorrow night, December 29th in the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off Championship game. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM (Central Time) and will be televised on Bally Sports Wisconsin, Bally Sports North and Bally Sports Ohio.
