San Jose State Spartans Defeat Portland Pilots

The San Jose State Spartans (6-4) get their first road win of the season with a 90-78 win over the Portland Pilots (8-5) inside the Chiles Center.

You couldn’t have asked for a much better start through 10 games under first year head coach Tim Miles considering where the program was when he took over.

I told my buddy who’s an alumni that Miles should get a lifetime contract if he takes SJSU to any postseason tournament this year.

One thing that certainly helped the Spartans out tonight was making 17 three-pointers!

SJSU shot 34-60 (56.7%) from the field, 17-of-33 (51.5%) from 3-point range, but were just 5-of-9 (55.6%) at the free throw line. The Spartans had 20 assists, which is a great number and had 10 turnovers which is a pretty good number (still would like to see that number in single digits if I’m being nitpicky).

San Jose State had six players score in double-figures. Trey Smith scored a game-high 24 points, Trey Anderson scored 15, Omari Moore had 13, Alvaro Cardenas added 12, Tibet Gorener chipped in 11, and Shon Robinson finished with 10 points.

Trey Anderson (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Omari Moore (13 points, 10 rebounds) each had double-digits.

One thing that wasn’t good was that Portland outscored SJSU 44-26 in the paint.
