Milwaukee Brewers Lose Game 3 to Atlanta Braves

The fifth inning will not be fondly remembered in Milwaukee Brewers history as the Crew lose Game 3 of the NLDS, 3-0, to the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.

The Brewers had runners on second and third base and zero outs in the fifth inning. That’s when things went downhill.

Lorenzo Cain hit a hard grounder to shortstop Dansby Swanson, who made a great play, and threw Cain out at first.

Then Craig Counsell made a tough decision to take out Freddy Peralta, who only had 57 pitches through four innings, and pinch hit Daniel Vogelbach. Vogey hit into a fielders choice and then Kolten Wong hit a screaming line drive to Freddie Freeman to end the inning.

Adrian Houser took the mound in the fifth and gave up two singles and a 3-run homer to Joc Pederson to the first three batters before getting out of the inning.

I don’t get all the criticism that Craig Counsell is getting about pinch hitting for the pitcher in the fifth. They had zero runs, ZERO RUNS! Oh and the offense hasn’t scored since the seventh inning of Game 1! That’s a span of 19 innings! This was not a pitching move.

Two runs in three games. Yep, that’s Claws Up alright.

The Brewers are 0-for-16 with runners in the scoring position. You have to have big hits to win postseason games (it’s true, you can look it up).

Milwaukee had a few more chances to get on the board and make a run at it even after the fifth inning.

I want to pull a Devin Williams at this point.

It amazes me that year after year the Brewers go in these deep freezes on offense, when they cannot get out of their own way.

As for Christian Yelich — who saw this coming after the 2018 and 2019 seasons? We can only hope and pray for the Brewers financial sake that it isn’t going to go down like this…

The Brewers will meet tonight to map out their pitching for a must-win Game 4, but it will not be Corbin Burnes starting on short rest, Craig Counsell said.
