San José State University Has A New Hockey Head Coach (Again)

The San José State Hockey program was searching for a new Head Coach for the second time this offseason after Kyle McLaren stepped down as Head Coach via email on July 22nd after being on the job for seven weeks.

SJSU named former Spartan player Spencer Archer as the new Head Coach.

Archer’s only coaching experience is at the youth and high school levels with the California Cougars in Cupertino, California.

“I had the ability to off ice train with AHL and NFL players and was able to learn many techniques both for physical workouts and game mentality,” Archer said. “I hope to instill these same skills and mindsets for our players.”

Archer said he’ll get an understanding of the goals of the players at an individual and team level at the teams first practice.

“I can take that information and work on plans on how to get us there. And develop an understanding of what I expect from the players in regards to the importance of hard work and attention to detail,” Archer said.

The Spartans will open the season against the California Golden Bears on Friday, September 24 inside Solar4America Ice at San Jose.
