The Milwaukee Brewers (5-4) are back to being over .500 for the first time since the opening day win after a 9-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals (5-4) this afternoon at Busch Stadium.
The Brewers offense came out of the gate hot, building a 7-0 lead heading to the bottom of the second inning.
The Brewers had seven hits and drew four walks in the first two innings.
However, the offense went dead, getting only two hits the rest of the game. But one of them was a big one, as Manny Pina hit a 2-run homer in the top of the ninth to give the Crew some insurance runs after the Cardinals cut the lead to 7-3.
Starting pitching has been the storyline for the Brewers so far through nine games. The starting pitching has held up their end of the bargain, giving the team a chance to win every game so far.
Brett Anderson (1-1) went five strong innings to get the win today, allowing one run on five hits and walking two with only one strikeout.
Eric Yardley came in for the bottom of the sixth inning and gave up two runs to make it a tighter game.
Christian Yelich did leave the game in the second inning with “back soreness” and Travis Shaw also left the game for precautionary reasons after fouling a ball off his shin during an at bat.
Manager Craig Counsell said that both Yelich and Shaw are “day-to-day” and won’t rule them out and will see how they are when they get to the field.
Manny Pina had a great day at the plate and behind the plate today. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a walk.
The Crew went 4-2 on the road trip (@ Chicago and @ St. Louis) and both catchers and the starting pitching were very good on the trip.
The one guy the Brewers need to get going quickly offensively is Luis Urias who went 0-for-3 at the plate today with two walks and has a batting average of .074 on the season.

The Brewers will host their arch-rival the Chicago Cubs (4-5) for a three game series at American Family Field. The first game will be tomorrow, April 12. First pitch is set for 6:40 PM (Central Time). The game will be nationally televised on FS1.
Freddy Peralta (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the start for Milwaukee, while Adbert Alzolay (0-1, 7.20 ERA) will get the start for Chicago.
