UW-Milwaukee Upsets Wright State To Advance To Horizon League Tourney Semi-Finals!

The UW-Milwaukee Panthers (10-11) do the unthinkable and upset the 2nd-seeded Wright State Raiders (18-6), 94-92 in overtime, to advance to the Horizon League Tournament Semi-Finals!

After a brutal defensive effort in the first half, the Panthers trailed 44-26 at halftime. UWM ultimately trailed 72-48 with 6:26 remaining in the game before DeAndre Gholston hit a 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds left to cap off a 33-9 run over the final 6:26 to force overtime.

The defense over the final 10 minutes of the second half and the five minutes in overtime was the best defensive effort in the Pat Baldwin era.

The Panthers outscored Wright State 13-11 in the extra frame to pull out an unbelievable comeback and upset.

DeAndre Gholston led UWM with 31 points on 9-of-19 from the field, 4-of-10 from 3-point range (2 of them were HUGE makes), and 9-of-9 at the foul line. Gholston also had nine rebounds.

Te’Jon Lucas finished with 25 points despite having a poor night at the free throw line (4-of-9) and Josh Thomas added 14 points before fouling out in overtime.

The 8th-seeded UW-Milwaukee Panthers will play the 1-seed Cleveland State Vikings (17-7) at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis on Monday, March 8 in the first Horizon League Tournament Semi-Final game. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM (Central Time) and will be televised on ESPNU.
