Atlanta Hawks Fire Lloyd Pierce

The Atlanta Hawks have fired third year head coach Lloyd Pierce after going 63-120 (.344) in his tenure, including a 14-20 start to this season.

The San Jose, California native played at Yerba Buena High School before playing at Santa Clara University from 1994-98 under legendary coach Dick Davey, including playing with current Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash for two of those years, before playing overseas for four teams from 1998 to 2002.

Pierce spent time on the Santa Clara University staff from 2003-07 before making the jump to the NBA where he had stops with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2007-10), Golden State Warriors (2010-11), Memphis Grizzlies (2011-13) and the Philadelphia 76ers (2013-18) before getting the Atlanta Hawks head coaching job.

Pierce is a great guy and there’s no question he’ll get another coaching position. The Atlanta job just didn’t work out for him. I think he’d be a good college head coach.
