The Wisconsin Badgers have their new Cornerbacks Coach in Hank Poteat, which adds more NFL experience on the UW defensive staff.
Poteat, an All-Big East defensive back and a 10-year NFL career and a super bowl ring, paid his dues in the Mid-American Conference at Kent State and Toledo finally gets his chance in a power-five conference.
Poteat did spend two seasons under Chryst at Pittsburgh as a Graduate Assistant and evidently made an impression.
“I’m excited to be working with Hank again,” Chryst said in a statement. “He’s a tremendous person and a great coach. I’m really fired up for our players to get the chance to be coached by Hank because I think he’s a terrific teacher and will really connect with our guys.”
Poteat fills the staff vacancy that was created when quarterback coach Jon Budmayr left to become the offensive coordinator at Colorado State. Choosing not to fill the role with another quarterback coach likely suggests that Paul Chryst will likely handle the role himself.
With the hire of Poteat, it likely frees defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard of some of his responsibilities, since he was coordinating the defense while also coaching the safeties and cornerbacks.
Chryst also filled out the defensive line coach opening with Ross Kolodziej and new director of strength and conditioning with the hire of Shaun Snee.
