No. 10 Wisconsin Badgers Defeat Northwestern Wildcats

The 10th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers (12-3, 6-2) pulled away from the Northwestern Wildcats (6-7, 3-6) for a 68-52 win inside the Kohl Center tonight.

Four players were in double figures for UW, led by Tyler Wahl’s 14 points. D’Mitrik Trice finished with 12 points, Brad Davison added 11, and Micah Potter scored 10 points.

Wahl was the player of the game for the Badgers. Making his second straight start, the sophomore finished with six rebounds and two assists on top of his career high 14 points. After starting 2-of-9 from 3-point range in the first 11 games, Wahl is 5-for-6 from distance in the last four games.

True freshman Jonathan Davis was a big boost on both ends of the court tonight, especially in the first half. He scored 8 points with 3 rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in the first half. Davis continues to be a key piece to UW, he has a plus/minus of +143 through 15 games, the second best mark on the team.

UW’s defense was not very good in the first half. Northwestern scored 34 points in the first 20 minutes. The Wildcats were 6-for-7 on dunks or layups in the first half and shot 51.7 percent from the field in the half.

Head Coach Greg Gard said the team struggled to stop the ball and defend a number of ball screen situations.

The defense was significantly better in the second half. Northwestern only scored 18 points on 27.3 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes.

Some good news Greg Gard said after the game was that freshman guard Lorne Bowman, who has been away from the team since early October to attend family matters, has re-enrolled at UW and will take classes virtually this semester. Gard didn’t have a timeline on when Bowman would rejoin the team.

The Wisconsin Badgers will host #15 Ohio State (11-4, 5-4) on Saturday, January 23, inside the Kohl Center. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM (Central Time) and will be televised on CBS.
