Maccabi Tel Aviv Takes Down FC Barcelona

Maccabi Tel Aviv (6-9) defeated first place FC Barcelona (11-4) this afternoon, 68-67. Othello Hunter got the game winning basket on an and-one alley-up from a great setup by Scottie Wilbekin with 13 seconds left to give Tel Aviv the 68-67 lead.

Wilbekin was hurt on the play with what looked like a hamstring injury, so I imagine he’ll be out the next few games.

Hunter missed the free throw, giving Barcelona plenty of options to win with a bucket.

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s defense stood tall in the final 13 seconds to hang on for the victory.

This was a huge win for Maccabi, who’s been in so many close games only to fall short. Is this the victory that will setup Tel Aviv to take advantage of opportunities yet to come?

Angelo Caloiaro played 26 minutes, scoring 4 points on 2-of-6 shooting, with 1 assist and 7 rebounds including one huge offensive rebound that helped set up the game winning basket.

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s next EuroLeague game will be on Tuesday against Panathinaikos Opap Athens (5-9). Tip-off is set for 1:15 PM (CT).
