Maccabi Tel Aviv lost a heartbreaker on the road this afternoon to Villeurbanne, 84-81.
Tel Aviv had plenty of chances in the second half after trailing by nine points at intermission. Tel Aviv was able to cut it to a two point deficit and trailed by three with the ball and 15 seconds remaining, but were unable to get over the hump to tie or take the lead.
The loss puts Maccabi Tel Aviv at 5-9 in EuroLeague play.
Angelo Caloiaro played 24 minutes, scoring 7 points on 2-of-5 shooting (0-for-1 from 3) and 3-for-3 at the free throw line. Caloiaro also had 4 rebounds.
Late in the game trailing 84-78, Caloiaro got a big offensive rebound and put it back in for the score and an and-one foul to bring Tel Aviv to within three at 84-81.
Maccabi Tel Aviv will have another EuroLeague game against FC Barcelona (11-3) on Friday, December 18, at 2:00 PM (CT).
