Talking College Basketball

Only 100 days until the 2020-21 College Basketball season officially begins! Some people have hobbies, I watch College Basketball (and College Football).

Pepperdine’s Colbey Ross withdrew from the NBA Draft and will return to Malibu for the 2020-21 season. Significant WCC news.

Arizona State’s Remy Martin will return to Tempe for the 2020-21 season and withdraw from the NBA Draft. Massive Pac-12 news.

Oregon State’s Ethan Thompson will withdraw from NBA Draft and return to school.

Creighton’s Denzel Mahoney and Damien Jefferson are withdrawing from the NBA Draft and returning to school. Significant Big East news.

Iowa’s Luka Garza withdrew from the NBA Draft to return to the Hawkeyes. Sadly, the Big Ten will go through Iowa City in 2020-21.

Aaron Henry will be returning to Michigan State, but Xavier Tillman will remain in the NBA Draft.

Illinois’ Ayo Dosunmu will return to Champaign. The Fighting Illini are a real threat with Ayo and Kofi returning. Illinois is a clear top four team in the Big Ten with Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan State.

Wisconsin didn’t have a single player go through the 2020 NBA Draft process, but is set to return their top five scorers from last seasons Big Ten Championship team.

Badgers likely will start five seniors in 2020-21, including three fifth-year seniors. The same starting five that won the Big Ten Title on the road at Indiana. Badgers return 88 percent of the scoring from 2019-20.

My early Big Ten predictions with no bias:

1. Iowa

2. Wisconsin

3. Illinois

4. Michigan State

5. Maryland

I would put Rutgers at No. 5 but I need to see road wins, something they practically never did in 2019-20.

Most Big Ten coaches wait until around Thanksgiving before they crack open a cocktail to ease their tensions about the conference gamut, I would not be surprised if a few bottles of Titos were opened this afternoon the way things have unfolded in the league.

If you thought the Big Ten was crazy good in 2019-20, well, buckle up for the 2020-21 season because the Big Ten is going to be absolutely insane (in a good way)!

My Personal Preseason Top 10 In Order (Knowing Full Well This Is Not What It Will Be):

1. Gonzaga

2. Iowa

3. Villanova

4. Baylor

5. Wisconsin

6. Illinois

7. Virginia

8. Duke

9. Michigan State

10. UCLA

People think Filip Petrusev leaving drops Gonzaga out of the top five are simply wrong. Assuming Kispert returns, they are absolutely the team to beat in College Basketball.

What are your thoughts?

My three favorite “value bets” to win the 2020-21 Basketball National Championship:

Illinois +8000

Arizona State +5000

Wisconsin Badgers +1600
