Wisconsin loses 68-62 to #18 Iowa

The Iowa Hawkeyes closed the game on a 22-5 run to beat Wisconsin 68-62.

One thing to remember about the Badgers “passivity” in the final 5-6 minutes: they were in so much foul trouble, Gard virtually had no choice but to try and shorten the game. Normally, I’d be a little critical with some of the late possessions, but in this games context, I get it.

Down one key player, that was a painful way for Wisconsin to lose. The refs took over in an embarrassing way those last 10 minutes.

Wisconsin was called for 28 (28!!!) fouls in the game which was a season high. Brad Davison fouled out, while D’Mitrik Trice, Nate Reuvers and Micah Potter all finished with four fouls.

Iowa was 25-for-32 (78.1%) at the free throw line while Wisconsin was 6-for-11 (54.5%).

Officiating changed everything in this game. It wasn’t just on the defensive end.

Kobe King did not play in the game. UW put out a statement that said the redshirt sophomore was dealing with a personal issue and Greg Gard didn’t expand on it afterwards.

“He’s back in Madison dealing with a personal matter,” Gard said. “That’s all I really know or can say right now. There’s really no timeline on anything.”

Wisconsin (12-9, 5-5) will host Michigan State (15-5, 7-2) on Saturday at the Kohl Center. Tip-off is set for 12:00 pm (CT) and will be televised on Fox.
