The Julie Kawamoto era at Santa Clara High opened up Friday afternoon with a 6-1 victory on the road against Palo Alto High School.
The Palo Alto Vikings got off to a 1-0 lead before the Bruins of Santa Clara strung together some hits and capitalized on some key Palo Alto errors en route to the 6-1 road win.
Senior pitcher Victoria Latz had a great day on the mound for the Bruins (1-0), striking out seven while going the distance.
“It’s great to start the season off with a win,” Kawamoto said. “The girls have been conditioning and working hard while dealing with the rain and difficultly with consistency with field practice, so it was a huge win for us.”
