SJSU hosts Fresno State to open MWC play

The San José State Spartans (3-9, 0-0) host arch-rival Fresno State (9-3, 0-0) tonight at 7:00 pm (PT) at The Event Center.

SJSU is 0-5 in MWC openers since joining the conference prior to the 2013-14 season. Two of those losses came to Nevada, while the other three losses came to Utah State.

A win tonight would not only be SJSU’s first MWC opening win, but it would give them four wins on the season which would match last years win total. It would also be Jean Prioleau’s first win against Fresno State as the SJSU head coach.

After losing very tight games against Cal and Stanford, the Spartans were held to a season low 45 points in their last game in a 75-45 loss to Saint Mary’s to wrap up non-conference play.

SJSU sophomore Noah Baumann ranks second in the nation in three-point percentage. He’s 30-53 (56.6%) from beyond the arc.

Tonight’s game will be the 172nd rivalry game between San José State and Fresno State. The rivalry dates back to December 18, 1916.

Prediction:

Fresno State 79, San José State 63
