Hornibrook potentially out for Northwestern game

Alex Hornibrook who has started every game since the 2017 season opener might not be able to play against Northwestern on Saturday.

Although he wasn’t on the injury report this week, per a report from a Wisconsin Radio Network, Hornibrook suffered a concussion last week in the victory over Illinois. Jack Coan is reportedly prepping to start against Northwestern.

According to the Journal Sentinel, Hornibrook was seen going through conditioning drills that is typical for players entered in the concussion protocol. Hornibrook dealt with concussion problems in 2016, forcing him to miss the Big Ten Championship game against Penn State and was limited against Western Michigan in the Cotton Bowl after suffering a concussion in the regular season finale against Minnesota.

Coan appeared in six games for the Badgers in 2017, completing all five pass attempts. Coan has not played yet in 2018, as Wisconsin has been holding off on using him with the new redshirt rule in place. Players can appear in up to four games before having to burn a year of eligibility, so not playing Coan has allowed for some roster flexibility for UW. Coan would be getting the nod over Danny Vanden Boom, who has appeared in two games this season.
